Arts & Crafts Designs of Dard Hunter

The Art of Dard Hunter

Dard Hunter is regarded as one of the most influential designers of the Arts & Crafts period, and his original designs helped to define many of the classic motifs of the time.

The original work represented here was done by Dard Hunter between 1902 and 1911 while working with the Roycrofters or for clients in Vienna or London and, in the opinion of many scholars, represents some of the greatest artistic achievements of the period.

All of these designs are hand printed on recycled acid-free paper from original plates provided by The Mountain House, Dard Hunter's home in Chillicothe, Ohio, in collaboration with his grandson, Dard Hunter III. The printing is done entirely on a hand-turned 1889 Chandler & Price letterpress. Additional colors are applied by successive press runs or, where individual color plates are missing or damaged, may be applied by hand using brush or stencil.

The six cards shown here represent some of the most popular mottos of Elbert Hubbard and the Roycrofters.
