Cranberry Press is owned and operated by Mark Nero and his wife Marilyn in the historic village of Kingston, New Mexico. Now a ghost town, Kingston was once a thriving metropolis of over 7000 citizens after silver was discovered here in the 1880's. The boom times ended as quickly as they had begun, however, with the mines playing out and the new Gold Standard lowering the price of silver. By 1900 the town was on the decline as the population dwindled. Today it is home to 35-or-so residents including a few artists and writers, the grand old Black Range Lodge, and Cranberry Press of course. Our straw and adobe studio is where we produce our handmade notes, cards, prints, books and other stationery items, all using turn-of-the-century techniques and equipment in the tradition of the hand craftsman.
Many of our designs reflect the Arts & Crafts style, inspired by the popular reformist movement at the turn of the last century. We are intrigued by the romantic appeal of this movement's ideals, especially those of the Roycrofters, and we strive to bring to our work the best of the Head, the Heart and the Hand.

In this effort, we are fortunate to be able to offer a selection of designs by one of the most influential artists of that period, Dard Hunter. His work is widely regarded by scholars as helping to define the major motifs of the Arts & Crafts style, and we hope you enjoy these cards, many of which are reprinted from original plates.
All of our cards are hand printed using an 1889 Chandler & Price platen press or a Vandercook flatbed press on a variety of recycled, acid-free archival and handmade papers. Some of our larger work is also printed using Dard Hunter's original hand press at the Dard Hunter Studios in Chillicothe, Ohio. Our type is set by hand and colors are applied by successive press runs or by hand using brush and stencil.
We hope you enjoy our catalog of work, done as best we can. Many of the things are peculiar and unique. An early selection is advised.
